Former world boxing champion Nigel Benn, famously known as The Dark Destroyer, entrusted AutoShippers with shipping his much-loved Porsche 959 replica from the UK to Sydney, Australia.

The remarkable car has a fascinating history spanning more than three decades, including an extensive restoration before making its journey halfway around the world.

Nigel Benn’s Remarkable Porsche 959 Replica

Nigel Benn’s distinctive Porsche 959 replica has a fascinating history stretching back more than three decades. The former world boxing champion first discovered the car at a dealership on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, where its striking resemblance to Porsche’s legendary 959 supercar immediately caught his attention.

Although not an original factory-built Porsche 959, the car’s dramatic styling and unmistakable Porsche character made it something special, and Nigel developed a lasting attachment to it.

Over the years, however, the Porsche fell into serious disrepair. After spending a lengthy period off the road, it had deteriorated badly, with extensive mechanical and cosmetic work needed to bring it back to life.

A remarkable restoration followed, undertaken by Kore Restoration with support from Porsche specialists Design911. The project included major engine work, extensive interior refurbishment, fresh paintwork and replacement wheels, transforming the neglected Porsche into the vehicle Nigel remembered.

When finally reunited with his treasured car, Nigel was delighted with the transformation. Despite having owned numerous impressive vehicles over the years, this particular Porsche remained one of his favourites.

With the restoration complete, the next chapter was to bring the Porsche to Australia, and that’s where AutoShippers came in.

Shipping Nigel Benn’s Porsche from the UK to Australia

AutoShippers arranged the collection and international shipment in a dedicated 20ft shipping container, bringing Nigel’s Porsche to our UK loading facilities, where it was carefully loaded and secured for its journey overseas.

Keen to see first-hand how his treasured Porsche would be handled, Nigel personally attended our facilities to watch the entire loading process. He took a particular interest in how the vehicle was positioned and secured inside the container, remaining on site until the container was sealed and ready for departure.

The Porsche departed Southampton aboard the CMA CGM Champs Elysees in December 2024, arriving safely in Sydney, Australia, in February 2025.

We were delighted to play a part in the latest chapter of this extraordinary car’s story.
