The Costa Verde
is the name of the tourist area covering the districts of the Minho
and most of the Douro Litoral. It stretches north from the city of
Porto to the Spanish border a small distance north of Viana do
Castelo.
The Costa
Verde is steeped in history with an abundance of grand churches,
castles
and manor houses dating back to the 12th century.
One of the region’s most
important towns is Braga, an ancient Roman
city which is now most well known as Portugal's religious capital. The
cathedral in Braga is a sight not to be missed and the nearby town of Bom Jesus has a medieval castle with some of Portugal's finest
examples of Azulejo tiling.

Costa Verde in
Portugal embodies all the North coastline form the mouth of the River
Miño in Valença do Minho to the mouth of the River Duero in the
cosmopolitan city of Oporto, with an International Airport. This
